Kart Coach is a kart telemetry app for iPhone. It measures where you drove, how long it took and what forces you pulled, and to do that it needs access that is worth explaining one item at a time. This page says what the app collects, what stays on your device, what leaves it and how to delete it.
Dashcam video, the detailed GPS trace and your health data never leave your device. They are recorded to local files or to the Health app, stay on the iPhone and the watch, and are not sent to any server, not even when you sign in to an account. If you switch devices, they stay on the old one. The only exception is live timing, which is off by default and only sends the kart's position if you turn it on, one session at a time.
What the app accesses, and why
| Access | What it is for | Where it stays |
|---|---|---|
| Precise location (GPS) | Timing the lap, detecting when you cross the start/finish line and drawing the GPS trace. Without it there is no lap timer. | On the device. Only the resulting time is uploaded, if you have an account. If you turn on live timing, the kart's position is also uploaded while that session is live. |
| Camera and microphone | Recording the session dashcam, with the track image and the engine sound. | Only on the device. Never sent. |
| Motion sensors | Measuring lateral and braking G-force and steering wheel rotation with the device mounted on the steering wheel. During this testing phase, the app also keeps the raw sensor readings from the latest sessions, to improve the measurement. | On the device. Only the lap's peak value is uploaded, if you have an account. The raw readings are never sent. |
| Apple Health app | Saving each race as a workout (start, end, calories and the route on the map) and reading your most recent weight to estimate calories when you drive without a watch. | In the Health app on your device. Never sent to our servers. |
| Apple Watch | Showing times on your wrist, vibrating when you gain or lose time, measuring your heart rate during the race and recording wrist motion to study the measurement. | On the watch and the iPhone. Heart rate and wrist motion are never sent. |
| AirPods motion | Measuring where your head points in the corners, to show whether you look at the corner exit early enough. | Only on the device. Never sent. |
The app asks for each of these permissions and explains why before asking, and it works without the ones you deny, with the matching features turned off. Denying location turns off the lap timer, which is the main feature.
Account and data that leave the device
Anonymous account
The first time it opens, the app creates an anonymous account, which is just a random identifier. It has no name, email or any of your data, and it exists so the app can keep your things before you decide whether to sign in.
Sign in with Apple
If you sign in with your Apple ID, we receive your Apple account identifier and, if you allow it, your name. You can use Apple's feature that hides your real email. Signing in keeps the same identifier as the anonymous account, so nothing you have already recorded is lost.
Driver profile
The app asks, and you can skip: how you drive (rental, your own kart or both), whether you race in a league and which one, how often you drive and which kart track is your home track. You can also build your driver card with a track nickname, racing number, class and the year you started racing. Any field you leave blank is not sent.
Weight and height stay only on your device. They exist in the app because kart classes are regulated by weight, and they are there for you. They are not sent to any server, and the database security rule rejects these fields even if a future version of the app tries to send them by mistake. Deleting the app deletes both.
Session times
If you have an account, a summary of each finished session is sent: track, date, duration, number of laps, the time of each lap, whether it counted, distance, top speed and G-force. That is what lets your times survive a change of device.
Not sent: the video, the point-by-point GPS trace, or any file path from your device.
Health data
Heart rate, calories, weight and the workout saved in the Health app are health data, which the LGPD (Lei 13.709/2018, Brazil's General Data Protection Law) treats as sensitive personal data. That is why the app only uses them with your permission, given on the permission screen of the iPhone and the watch themselves, and only for what is written in the table above.
No health data leaves your device. It is not uploaded with the session, is not included in crash reports or usage measurement, is not seen by other drivers or by whoever runs the app, and is never used for advertising or shared with anyone.
Without the watch, workout calories are an estimate: track time multiplied by the typical energy cost of kart racing from the reference table of physical activities, adjusted for your weight. With the watch, the Apple Watch itself does the calculation, based on your heart rate.
Leagues: what other drivers see
If you join a league and publish your time in a round, the other drivers in that league can see, for that round only: your nickname, your number, your team, the heat you raced in, your time and how many valid laps you drove. If the league posts the official standings, your position and your points appear alongside.
Publishing is your own action, one round at a time. No session goes to the league on its own, not even the one that took place on the day and at the track of the round. All your other sessions, the GPS trace, the telemetry, the video, your weight, your height and your email remain invisible to every other driver, inside or outside the league.
You can withdraw what you published at any time, from the round itself in the app. Withdrawing removes your time from the standings and does not touch your sessions. Leaving the league has the same effect on what you had published.
The league admin also sees the join request you sent, with nickname and number, while it is waiting for approval.
Live timing: what people with the link see
Before the start, you can turn on the session's live page. The switch is always off by default and does not stay on from one session to the next. When it is on, the app creates a link for that session only, which you send to whoever you want, and while you drive it sends: the kart's position every 2 seconds, with the speed, the trail of the current lap (at most the last 60 points), the time of each lap, your nickname, your number and the track name.
Anyone who opens the link sees this data in real time, without an account. There is no list of pages and no search: only people who received the link reach the page. If another driver joins your page from the app, their position and times appear on it too, and yours appear to whoever opens their link.
The page goes offline on its own one hour after the session ends. You can take it offline earlier from the app, and then the position and the trail are deleted right away. An offline page no longer opens for anyone, not even with the link, and its data is deleted from the server within 24 hours after that. A switch turned on without a start expires after 3 hours.
Reports, blocks and acceptance of the terms
When you report a driver, a team, a league or a leaderboard time, the app sends: what was reported (type, identifier and the name shown on screen), the reason you chose, the text you wrote in the details field, if any (up to 300 characters), your account identifier, the app version and the time it was sent.
Only whoever runs Kart Coach reads a report. The person reported does not find out who reported them, and not even the league admin sees the report. It is used to review the case, which is done within 24 hours, and it is kept as a record of that decision.
The list of drivers you blocked and the date and version of the league terms you accepted are stored in your profile, which only you and whoever runs Kart Coach can read. The blocked driver is not notified.
Website waiting list
If you left your email on this site, it is kept only to let you know when the app opens. It is not sold, not shared and not added to any third-party list.
Diagnostics and app usage
The app sends crash reports (when it crashes) and basic screen usage, through Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics. This is how we find out that the app crashed at someone's track, and which screens and features people actually use.
This data is not linked to you. The app does not send your account identifier to either of them: the report arrives with an anonymous installation code. Name, nickname, number, email, kart track name, lap time, heart rate, calories and weight never go into a crash report or a usage event.
Analytics ad personalization is explicitly turned off. The app has no advertising and does not track you across apps or websites.
Use of this website
This website also measures usage, through the same Firebase Analytics. It records the page visit and four steps: clicking the button that leads to the waiting list, submitting the form, entering an email in the wrong format and failing to save. That answers whether the page works, and nothing beyond that is recorded.
To do this, Analytics stores an identifier in your browser. It belongs to the browser, not to you: it does not carry your email or link it to the address you left on the waiting list, and the two are kept in separate places. Ad personalization, ad storage and ad data sharing are refused before measurement starts.
A tracker blocker turns this measurement off completely, and the website keeps working the same way: the waiting list is saved by the form itself, without going through Analytics.
The feedback form, for people testing the app before launch, saves the answers in the same database as the waiting list, where only the operator reads them. Your name is optional, and no answer goes to Analytics: the measurement records only which questions were touched, how many and how long it took, to show where people who start give up.
The operations dashboard, which only opens with an operator account, measures in the same way and for the same reason. None of its events carries the email of whoever signed in or what was searched: it records that a list was opened, not who opened it or who was being looked up.
Who processes this data
The app uses Firebase, by Google, for authentication,
database, crash reports and usage. The database is on servers in Brazil
(region southamerica-east1); crash and usage reports are
processed on Google's infrastructure, which may be outside the country.
Google acts as a processor: it processes the data on behalf of Kart Coach
and according to its instructions.
There is no advertising in the app, there are no third-party trackers, and no data is sold or shared for marketing purposes.
Who runs Kart Coach
Whoever maintains Kart Coach has access to an operations dashboard that shows driver profiles and the session count of each account. This is how the product is followed: knowing how many people use it, at which kart tracks and how often.
What this dashboard shows: nickname, racing number, class, home kart track, the league you listed and how many sessions the account has.
What it does not show: your weight, your height, your photos, the GPS trace of your laps, the telemetry and the videos. These never leave your device, as stated above, so they do not exist there to be seen.
The dashboard is read-only: whoever runs it cannot change or delete what is yours through it. And access requires a separate account of its own, apart from driver accounts: signing in to the app does not give access to it.
How long data is kept
For as long as you keep the account. When you delete the account, the profile and the uploaded times are deleted from the servers.
The reports you sent are the exception: they stay as a moderation record even after the account is deleted. If you want them removed, ask through the contact email below.
On the device, the raw sensor readings are kept only for the most recent sessions and are deleted on their own when they go over the storage limit. The wrist motion file leaves the watch as soon as it reaches the iPhone, and the watch keeps at most the last three. Workouts in the Health app stay there until you delete them.
Your rights, and how to exercise them
Under the LGPD you can request access to, correction, portability, anonymization or deletion of your data, and withdraw consent.
- Delete a session: in the Sessions tab, by swiping the row to the side. Its video and telemetry leave the device along with it, and the session is also removed from your account if it was already uploaded.
- Delete the account and everything uploaded: in the Profile tab. This deletes your profile, the uploaded times and the user, and it cannot be undone. A live timing page that is still online goes offline on its own within one hour and is deleted within 24 hours after that. The sessions recorded on this device stay on this device, and you can delete them one by one. If you prefer, you can also ask through the contact email below, and the request is handled within 15 days.
- Revoke a permission: in the iPhone Settings app, under Privacy & Security.
- Revoke access to the Health app: in the iPhone Settings app, under Health, Data Access & Devices, Kart Coach. Workouts already saved can be deleted in the Health app itself.
- Delete everything that lives only on the device: by deleting the app. The video and the GPS trace exist only there, so deleting the app removes both for good.
- Withdraw what you published in a league: from the round itself, in the app, or by leaving the league.
- Leave the waiting list: through the contact email below.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from that age group.
Changes to this policy
If something changes in a relevant way, the date at the top changes and the notice appears in the app before the change takes effect.
